Learn MoreA new study suggests that girls and young ladies who devote a lot of their time to being on the Internet, sleeping too little and drinking alcohol regularly are more likely than others their age to put on excess weight.
The researchers of this study followed over 5,000 girls between the ages of 14 to 21 for a year. The more time these girls and young women spent on the Internet, the higher their BMI (body mass index) increased.
Lack of sleep and alcohol consumption also reported similar findings. The BMI was particularly higher in girls under 18 years of age who spent a lot of time on the computer.
The researchers said while the results were “modest”, over time the weight issues could become significant.
